After the shots

Your child may need extra love and care after getting immunized. Many shots may cause discomfort for a while. Your child may be fussy due to pain and/or fever. You can give your child Tylenol or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) to reduce the pain and fever,  but do not give aspirin. If the fussiness lasts for more than 24 hours, please call us.

If your child’s arm or leg should swell or become reddened or warm, apply a cold cloth over the area and give Tylenol or ibuprofen.

Refer to the instructions for fever if your child does develop one and call us immediately if:

Your child becomes pale or limp.

Your child has been crying for more than three hours and just won’t stop or has a strange cry; for example, one that has a higher pitch than usual.

Your child’s body is shaking, twitching or jerking.

If you become concerned at all about how your child is looking or feeling, please call us.
