Vomiting
and diarrhea
Adults: Nothing to eat/drink for 60 minutes after vomiting or loose
stools, then for 24 to 48 hours, sips of clear liquids only. Examples:
Broth, Jello, weak decaffeinated tea, Kool-Aid, flat 7-Up, Pedialyte.
For the next 24 hours, the “BRAT” diet:
Small amounts of bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, pretzels, noodles,
plain baked potato or crackers.
Gradually increase bland food and return to a regular diet
over 4 to 5 days. Avoid dairy
products for 3 to 5 days.
Call the office for an appointment if you also:
Have a fever.
Begin having
abdominal pain
Urinate less than
once in 8 hrs
Symptoms persist
or increase
Have bloody
stools
